Wikipedia is facing serious financial crunch this 2007, Florence Devouard, chairwoman of the Wikimedia Foundation at Lift07 conference said that Wikipedia has financial recourses to run their servers for the next three – four months and without further funding, Wikipedia might “disappear”.

It’s hard to believe that Wikipedia is running out of money. This might just be donation propaganda by Florence. Even if this was true, the possibility of Wikipedia coming to an end is very small because the site is worth few billions (at least), Google, Yahoo or Microsoft might acquire Wikipedia.

Wikipedia had made a pledge to remain free of advertising and sponsorships, this would soon be put under test bed.

  3. sorry, but i deleted that post.

  4. I hope it does not happen , it is a great site for info ..

  5. I am sure some big company would buy them out if they were going down hill. In all reality they should sell now and get a higher price. My best guess is that Google will buy it. Google is greedy now.

  6. Bryan: Na.. Something makes me feel that Google isn’t interested with Wikipedia.

Anyways, would you like Wikipedia in the hands of Google?

  7. But they just raised more than $1,000,000. What is that going towards?

I will be extremely sad if Wikipedia goes away :(

  8. Ranjani: They say that 1 million dollars is insufficient. They need about 5 million dollars to survive.
